Last month, our neighbours in the Principality of Monaco sent a strong message of their commitment to a sustainable future for inhabitants, visitors, and commuters alike – the National Pact for the Energy Transition of Monaco was introduced and signed by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince Albert II. Their objectives, like many forward-thinking policy makers is clear: to reduce gas emissions and the greenhouse effect, lower the energy needs of the Principality and increase local production of renewable energy.
Their commitment is unique, however, in that they are inviting everyone to contribute through a series of action plans and a commitment charter putting a focus on each person’s capacity to play a role in the changes. Leading the charge is a dedicated team called, ‘the Mission for the Energy Transition’ with complete support from the government and H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince Albert II – a vocal proponent and key actor in global sustainable development and environmental protection.
Activities in the Principality consider biodiversity, resource management, the implementation of a climate-based energy plan. We at Vertech are tremendously enthusiastic to see concrete measures being taken, such as the promotion of a responsible trading label ‘Commerce Engagé’ for patrons to choose where to buy based on socially and environmentally responsible principles.
Each step to facilitate the integration of sustainability – with citizens at the foundation of the societal pyramid and policy makers leading the way – reinforces our commitment to accompany organisations and individuals towards circular economy practices as stewards of our planet for future generations.
