Today there are about 7.7 billion men, women and children on Earth. These figures, released by the United Nations (UN), show global numbers are now growing at the alarming rate of about 100 million every 14 months. By 2050, the Earth’s population will have hit 9.7 billion and it will continue to rise and with that, every forest, valley and piece of land will have to be turned to agriculture to feed us, that is the main issue. What are we doing now to be able to feed future generations? How can we save our natural resources? What are we doing to avoid the scarcity of food and the deterioration of our planet?
As we have seen, it’s clear that the population continues to grow but, unfortunately, this growth didn’t come together with strategies to safeguard our resources. There is no news when we say that our planet is deteriorating and that “few things” are being done to avoid it. To these facts we could sum up that the greatest growth of the population is taking place in Africa, where we know that not only the scarcity of food, but also water, is one of its most important problems. Every human being at the global community is aware by now what it’s going in this region, however, few international strategies are being carried out. Starting from the most basic, education, to avoid the high number of pregnancies / births. If from this basic concept little is done, it is difficult to think that progress is made on other issues, such as the proper use of natural resources and avoiding scarcity.
From Vertech Group we do not like to speak from a negative point of view but, in this topic, we see it difficult to do otherwise. The reality is what it is this and it is not necessary to go through every single written article to realize that, as the years go by, the level of alarm increases. And, in top of that, we could add global warming, which in turn raises the alarm level and the consequences for all the inhabitants of the planet.
More than ever, we should raise awareness that strategies that solve the scarcity of resources shouldn’t be stopped, as they help to find innovative solutions to avoid the deterioration of resources. From Vertech Group’s action field we try to do our best, not also through our work in circular economy, but as well through the Lena Foundation, which is working around the world in some regions where problems as water sanitation and education are urgent matters. But this is not enough, and from our company, we would like to see that world leaders manage to coordinate efforts and sum of wills from the political sphere, of organizations and of society in general to achieve a positive transcendental change.
